Crafts and Such

A little about me. I like to work in my garden when the weather's nice. Since I live in the south, the weather's nice most of the year. Except when it's really hot outside. Like right now. During the winter, one of my favorite things to do is make homemade candles. I also enjoy doing some beadwork, and I keep thinking about starting a scrapbook. I always enjoy learning new crafts. It's just fun.

Westville and crafty Places

I'll admit it. I haven't been able to get Westville off my mind. So I decided to do a little write up on it for the website. We also added a new section called Crafty Places. We'll put up stories about places like Westville where you can go and experience arts and crafts first hand. Jason, our webmaster, is working on a story about Ohio's Amish country that should be a good read. I don't know when he'll get it up, but knowing him, it might take a week or two.

Old Timey Georgia village

I was just reading another blog, and found out about a neat little place in western Georgia. It's called Westville and it's a lot like Colonial Williamsburg. They've set up a completely functioning town set in the 1850s. They have homes, schools, churches, and of course crafts people. Woodworkers, blacksmiths, potters, and candle makers all practice their trade and are available to answer questions. It looks like a great way to step back into history and learn how people lived in yesteryear. When you visit the Westville website, be sure to check out the events section. They have special events all year round, but the Christmas Decorating Workshop looks really fun.

Scrapbooking Contest

It's been a few days since I posted anything, but I haven't forgotten about my blog. I've just been really busy. I'll try and do better though. But I did want to let everybody know about a scrapbooking contest I just heard about. You'll find the blog post with all the information here. What you do, is scrap about yourself. Not your friends, loved ones, or anything else. Sounds like a tough one, but I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

New Article Sections

Our webmaster has been at it again. He created new sections for woodworking, scrapbooking, and candle making. He said that he hasn't added any new articles, just moved them around to make it easer to find what you're interested in.

Lots of Candle Stuff

This one is for all the candle lovers out there. Be sure to visit the National Candle Association. It kind of a trade group for candle manufacturers, but they've got lots of information for the average person too. You'll find out about different types of candles, what the popular scented candles are, candle safety, and a bunch more. So if you make your own candles or just like using candles around your home, you'll be intrigued by their website.

An Unwelcome Visitor

I was outside doing some yard work today, and what did I find? A copperhead lying right beside the house. I pulled back a piece of landscaping plastic and there he was. EEEK! I don't mind telling you that I don't like snakes. But when you live out in the country, you kind of get used to them. I'll scoop up a black snake with a shovel and usher him back into the woods, but I'm not about to mess with a poisonous one. I went and got Fred to deal with it. It's funny, my dog hasn't wanted to go up for the past few nights, so I'm wondering if the snake had been around his house. I think I'll stay on the computer for a bit where it's safe.

New Section on My Arts and Crafts

Our webmaster just emailed me and asked if I'd post about a new section he just added to our website. It's for all the professional crafters out there, and he's going to give tips and tricks for promoting your crafts website. He just put up an article on using articles to market your site. Hope you enjoy and get some good ideas from it.

Oh, he also wants some input about what types of articles you'd like to see in the craft business section. So just comment away, and I'll pass them along.

Nice Candle Blog

Wow, two in one day! I'm getting good at this. Here's the blog of The Two Blue Candle Company. They specialize in hand made candles, and the blog has lots of great info on it. Not only some information on paraffin vs. soy wax, but what craft shows they will be at. You'll even find some behind the scenes stuff from the candle shop.

Found One

I've been looking over blogger trying to find great arts and crafts blogs, and I've been having a hard time. I don't think I've gotten the hang of the search yet. But I found one really nice one. It's the blog of Angela Rockett an artist from Washington State. She has lots of her drawings and artwork up and upcoming exhibit information. She also talks about other art shows she's gone to and what she saw and liked. It's a great little blog, and you should check it out.

If anybody else knows of any blogs like this, let me know. It might make my search a little easier.

I Forgot to mention

I'm also going to use my blog to keep everyone up to date on what's going on at My Arts and Crafts website. I'' tell you when I've got a new article or when the we change things around or add something new. I'll even try and get some of the other folks from over there posting here too.

My First Post

Ok, I'm a little new at this, but I've been talked into starting a blog. I'm going to put up lots of craft and crafting information, and let you know where on the internet you can find more. From time to time I'll give out some tips and secrets I've learned over the years. I don't want to start rambling, so I'll leave it at that for now.
